Abstract impressions

Summer break, so time to play! 🙂

Playing with photos and Photoshop. A while ago I bought a number of “actions” for Photoshop. An action is an automated number of actions performed by the program. Goal is a beautiful image. This action is called Abstract impressions. If you’ve used it, your image is a big mess. A lot has to be done to make look like the images I’m sharing. But now I have time for that. I love doing this, now it’s so hot and I’m inside all the day from 12 o’clock onwards.

It is really a quest. I share the images in the order in which I made them. First with a white background and a little color from the original photo.

When I practiced a bit, I discovered that there was also a possibility to convert the image to a black background. Both photos again.

Later I decided that more color in the background could be beautiful. This is not in the action it self. For that I added things myself. All three photos contain colors that appear in the original photo.

Let me know what you think of it through the messages at the bottom of this post. I will also include them in the new shop, which I am still working on.

Black and white stripes

Vacation time, so time for playing with Photoshop and and photos of my favorite animals. In addition to primates and large birds, the big cats also belong to my favorite subjects. They can look very sweet and calm and very fierce and threatening. Lately I did not do a lot of “on black” edits. Cats are very well suited for this editing. The photos were taken in Burgers Zoo and Dierenpark Amersfoort.

Twins

It was national news: twins born in the Apenheul. Golden lion tamarins. Wow! I did not expect to see them, but I did see them. The family runs around freely in the park and is very visible. So sweet! Making good pictures of it is not easy. It would be nice to see two cups looking into the camera. That did not work out. But I made the following pictures.

For golden lion tamarins getting twins is very normal. This couple also had twins last year. “Big” brother and sister are also in the trees. The nice thing is that the whole family helps to raise the kids. Both mom and dad wear them on their backs. When they sleep, that often is on one of the parent, but when they are awake they are also split up.

The whole family is very talkative. There is constant peeping and calling. The little ones also participate. This way the group knows where everyone is. This is of course very useful if you belong in a jungle.

No matter how small the monkeys are, they are quite large in relation to the parents. A lot of weight to carry around while you climb and jump through the trees. Adults weigh only about 600 grams.

My stick

In the last 10 days I have been in the Apenheul twice. At home I noticed that I had made many photos of monkeys with a stick. Sticks to eat or to use. I immediately thought back to photos I made in 2014 in the Apenheul. With gorillas using a stick to lean on. Time for a photo blog with sticks 🙂

The first is this Red titi. I do not know if it is eaten here or if the stick is used as a toothpick. Probably the first option.

And then this picture from 2014. Newly edited. I have a whole series of photos of this lady. Everywhere she looks amazing. A model with a lot of charisma and self-confidence. The look says it all!

In the Apenheul the monkeys get to eat different things. One of the types of food: branches with leaves. Here the meal is eaten by the Kroonsifaka.

And then the Orangutan. Everything shows how intelligent these animals are. They make their own tools, in this case a stick from which the leaves are eaten. The long stick is used to take food that has fallen into the water to the side. Here the green leaf, which became a very nice snack.

Again the Orangutan. This time mother and child. Here a stick is prepared with which honey is taken out of holes and grapes from an enrichment puzzle. Everything that mother does is studied by the little one. It was on top of everything mom did. It won’t take long for the little one to start working with sticks too.

Lemurs

The lemurs are a family of primates that only live on Madagascar and nearby islands. In recent years I have been to the Apenheul many times and have photographed all the leur species they have. There are 8 species in the Apenheul. 5 of them roam free in the park. 3 types are behind glass. The most endangered of them is the blue-eyed lemur. The lemurs are in trouble at Madegascar because humans are massively destroying the habitat. They also hunt for the meat and the animal is traded as a pet. So sad!

I’m sharing a collection of photos that I have taken in the Apenheul in recent years. The 8 species are there. This year I bought a subscription for 2018. I’ll make a lot more photos. I cann’t wait til my next visit!
