Marmeranolis

Today I was at Burgers Zoo. It was a nice day. In the bush I went looking specifically for these Marmeranolis. This species comes from South America and grows to a maximum of 24 cm (the male). I find them funny and they have such beautiful colors. Now that I know where I can find them, I will be photographing them more often. It seems that when the males are angry, they get even more color and also show a colorful “throat flag”. That must of course also be photographed.

I also saw one without a tail. That is possible, because these lizards can have their tail broken off at a certain place in the event of danger. It will then take a while for the new tail to grow back. This trick of tail shedding only works once in the life of an anolis. They must be careful with it.

On a day like this, I long to have a lens with more zoom. The best ones are often just a little too far away for me.

Here photos from Marmeranolissen 🙂
