It was beautiful weather today. A heat record was broken. Every spring numerous crocuses bloom in our village in a place where there used to be a manor. It does not work every year to photograph insects, because it is not always warm enough in the period that the crocuses bloom. Today that was the case. I spent a few hours in the middle of the crocuses and made a lot of pictures. I was enjoying the weather, the buzzing insects and the first butterflies.
What is striking is that the insects work very differently. Bees approach cautiously, land quietly and get their meal.
Bumblebees are clumsy and awkward. That is probably due to the bulky body. They actually make a kind of crash landing on the crocus. The flowers then almost collapse under the weight. But I think they are happy with the bumblebees, because there can be a lot of pollen on those hairy bodies.
These are my first butterfly photos in the free nature of 2019. These lemon butterflies are also happy with the crocuses. They only creep into the flower when it is still slightly less open. If he is completely open, they also try to stick their long tongue between the petals from the side or over the edge of the flower. Veryhandy a long tongue like that 🙂
