My stick

In the last 10 days I have been in the Apenheul twice. At home I noticed that I had made many photos of monkeys with a stick. Sticks to eat or to use. I immediately thought back to photos I made in 2014 in the Apenheul. With gorillas using a stick to lean on. Time for a photo blog with sticks 🙂

The first is this Red titi. I do not know if it is eaten here or if the stick is used as a toothpick. Probably the first option.

And then this picture from 2014. Newly edited. I have a whole series of photos of this lady. Everywhere she looks amazing. A model with a lot of charisma and self-confidence. The look says it all!

In the Apenheul the monkeys get to eat different things. One of the types of food: branches with leaves. Here the meal is eaten by the Kroonsifaka.

And then the Orangutan. Everything shows how intelligent these animals are. They make their own tools, in this case a stick from which the leaves are eaten. The long stick is used to take food that has fallen into the water to the side. Here the green leaf, which became a very nice snack.

Again the Orangutan. This time mother and child. Here a stick is prepared with which honey is taken out of holes and grapes from an enrichment puzzle. Everything that mother does is studied by the little one. It was on top of everything mom did. It won’t take long for the little one to start working with sticks too.
